Position Assessment: Thus far in my position, I have helped organize Powderpuff sign-ups and began to prepare meeting dates and practices for the teams. I ran sign-ups Wednesday and Thursday during Club Rush week which, evident by our large amount of participation, was very successful. Along with doing my specific job requirements, I have also helped the entire class in general by assisting in setting up for rallies, the BBQ, and advertising events on social media. In my job, I still have to organize powderpuff jerseys and create specific dates for meetings and practices with Malery and Nico. We also will facilitate the powderpuff game when it happens in early October.
Standing Committee: I am currently in the Sports Relations standing committee, which is in charge of recognizing all the sports at Ripon High at rallies and through social media. We also attend sporting events and show our support and school spirit. So far, we haven’t done anything specific, just advertised sports in rallies and showed our support.
Special Committees: I am in the Fall Sports Rally, Talent Show, and BBQ committees. For the Fall Sports Rally, I was selected to be a trainee along with Katelyn, so we learned valuable information about organizing the event, and also helped the committee as a whole. The rally turned out to be a huge success. For the talent show committee, I am also a trainee with Avery. We will work with Brendan in the winter to select a theme, get decorations, thoroughly advertise, and run tryouts. Last year went really well, so we hope to meet, and hopefully surpass, those existing expectations. The entire class was in the BBQ committee, and we basically helped set up, and distribute food to the student body or find another way to assist.
Concerns: I am concerned with how our class will be able to handle the overall stress this upcoming year. Last year, we all were overwhelmed with work to do essentially every day. Now this year, we are doing all the events we have done previously, but including an entire book that will take time away from us, and other lessons throughout the year about wide-ranging topics. Although I think learning more about ourselves and our opportunities to grow is great, I am just concerned if it will be too much for us to handle along with everything else we do. I worry that we will push these learning moments to the back of our to-do list and they will become useless. Also, since I have taken on a heavier load of academic and athletic work this year, I am even more scared about if I will have enough time to complete everything in this class to the best of my ability.
Positive Comment: I would like to give a shoutout to Natalie, for her hard work and dedication towards the Fall Sports Blacklight Rally this past week. She put so much time into organizing every little detail, and the rally itself turned out to be a massive success. It’s often hard to find someone who is willing to expend so much energy into one project, even when there is a whole committee of 20 people who could do the work for her. She has clear traits of work ethic, optimism, and motivation that you don’t see every day. Because of these traits, and the success of the blacklight rally, Natalie definitely deserves a shoutout.
One Change I Would Like to See: I would like to see preparations for Homecoming begin earlier than usual. Every year, we always cram everything at the last minute, and I think everyone will be much less stressed and produce better results if early preparations are enforced. This is especially important to me, considering the Homecoming fiasco the freshmen had last year.
My Impact: I have changed the world today by keeping a smile on my face and doing my best to make my peers feel happy all the time. I want to be a better example this year in terms of my optimism, and I think that keeping a bright expression daily will help that cause. The average student at Ripon High dislikes school for the most part, so I want to help people become more enthusiastic about school.
