The Professional
One professional skill I learned this year in Leadership was public speaking. This has always been difficult for me to do well, so it is good that went over it this year. In class, we discussed many important aspects of public speaking, such as posture, eye contact, slurring your words, how fast you talk, movement of the hands, loudness, and more. All of these aspects are crucial to being a powerful and convincing speaker. We practiced this by doing regular debriefs in ASB Formal Meetings and regular class discussions as well. Being able to speak confidently and clearly is extremely important in the business world, so it is awesome that we learned this skill in Leadership.
Another professional skill I learned in Leadership this year is how to properly give a slideshow presentation. This skill did not really pop up until later in the year, when our class was to give a formal presentation to another school's ASB program searching to become A-G approved. Essentially, we went over everything that our class does in the form of slideshows. In preparation of this presentation, Mr. Hobbs gave some great advice on how to make them better. He discussed with us the 5 by 5 format rule (5 bullet points, 5 words per line) and what each slide should consist of. Being able to properly make slideshows and present them well allows for the audience to be more engaged and interested in what you are talking about, so this is also a very important professional skill we learned this year.
