January/February ASB Report
Anthony Sausedo
Athletics Commissioner

Position Assessment: Thus far in my position, I have completed one major event, Powderpuff, and am currently preparing for my next event, the dodgeball tournament. For Powderpuff, Nico, Malery, and I essentially had to distribute jerseys, organize practices, facilitate staff supervisors, run the actual event, and collect jerseys afterwards. It ended up running pretty smoothly. For dodgeball, we have started to conduct team sign-ups, which will run through February. We have also started asking for referees, such as Velasco, Vigil, Perez, and Musseman. The set week for dodgeball is March 16-20, which I hope will be a successful, non-chaotic event. We still have to collect all eight teams, advertise the event more, and also get the plaque ready as well. Aside from those two events, we have also been updating the north gym shadow boxes with the recent athletic rosters and newspaper clippings. Nico, Malery, and I have also been actively attending sporting events and also encouraging the student body to attend as well.
Standing Committees: I am currently in the Sports Relations, Coronation/Winterfest, and Senior Night committees. In Sports Relations, we are all responsible for making sure that all athletes at RHS get represented and appreciated by the student body through rallies, announcements, attending the games, etc. We also assist the Athletic Director, Mr. Wright, if he needs our help with anything athletic-related. In the Coronation/Winterfest committee, I assisted Natalie in setting up for the coronations, mainly with Homecoming, where I also passed out the maps to the candidates. In the Senior Night Committee, I am a part of the winter sports area, which means I helped Natalie order pizzas for all winter sport seniors to show our appreciation for them, which occurred on February 12 at lunch.
Special Committees: I was in the Black Light Rally and Talent Show committees previously in the year, and am currently in the Tri-tip fundraiser and RHS BBQ committees as well. In the Black Light Rally committee, we all contributed with creating ideas for the event, setting up for it, and making sure it runs smoothly. I will (hopefully) be in charge of this event next year with Malery, so I will be using Natalie’s procedure form and my own personal knowledge as guidance. In the Talent Show committee, I was a trainee along with Avery for the second year in a row, and Brendan was in charge. We did a lot with organizing rehearsals, ordering decorations, filling out paperwork, making flyers, advertising, and more. During the actual event, Brendan, Avery and I were all stage hands, where we were in charge of moving the curtain and any props that the performers needed. I will most likely be a trainee again next year, so I’m excited to make the event even better. For the Tri-tip and BBQ committees, the whole class contributes, so I just did my role in selling tickets and packaging meat for Tri-tip, and setting up and distributing food for the BBQ.
Concerns: I am very concerned with the lack of competition for elected Leadership positions. I’m not really sure why it has suddenly happened this year, but I see it as a definite concern. Most candidates are running unopposed, especially the ASB, future Senior class, and future Junior class candidates. There has been a lot of interest in commissioner positions though, which makes me wonder if people are just scared of campaigning and giving a speech. I really wish that there was more enthusiasm with class elections, because this year was very dull and uninteresting.
Positive Comment: I would like to give a shoutout to Brendan, for all of his hard work and dedication at the Talent Show. He did a great job of mentoring Avery and I and making sure the event ran smoothly, which it did. Essentially everything about the event was what we planned, which is mostly because of Brendan’s leadership and organization. He did a great job with the Talent Show overall, and I look forward to working with him again next year.
A Change I Would Like To See: I would like to see more awareness from the student body of spirit days and rallies, which means we need to spread the message more. In many instances, my peers have been completely unaware of spirit days, especially College Spirit Day. Also, people never know about rallies until the day of, which makes them less excited about the event. I think that morning announcements should include upcoming spirit days and rallies so the student body is more aware.
My Impact: I have impacted Ripon High today by inspiring my peers to get more involved and try things out of their comfort zone, notably Leadership. A few people in my class decided to apply to Leadership this year because I’ve advocated for the class and shown how amazing and impactful it really is. I truly want more people to care about the Leadership world, which is why I constantly am telling people they should apply and try to be in the program.
