November/December ASB Report

Position Assessment: Thus far in my position, the main event I’ve been in charge of is Powderpuff, along with Nico and Malery. For that, we had to run sign-ups, distribute jerseys, organize practice dates, fill out paperwork, and set up the day of the actual event. It went pretty smoothly, and there weren’t any major hiccups. The main thing that we messed up on was the situation during jersey collection. Some people were still on the bill list, even after turning in their jerseys, so we had to figure that whole situation out before formal. Besides that, I think we did pretty well running Powderpuff. Now, I have some downtime before our next event, which is dodgeball in the spring, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t begin preparations for that. Besides those two events, I’ve been helping out the Sophomore class officer team with Homecoming and Winter Formal, along with doing my job in the many committees that I’m a part of.
Standing Committee: I am a part of Sports Relations and the Coronation/Winterfest committees. In Sports Relations, we essentially do our best to publicize sporting events and show our support towards all student athletes. I’ve done this by attending many sporting events, including football and basketball games, along with showing endless support. In the Coronation/Winterfest Committee, Naomi and I were in charge of bringing out the maps to the contestants on Coronation Night, and I also helped Natalie run the entire event. For Winterfest, I will also help Natalie with getting sashes and flowers for Winterfest Court in January.
Special Committee: I am currently in the Fall Sports Rally, Tri-tip, Talent Show, and BBQ committees. For the fall sports rally, I helped set up for it and do the spotlights during the rally itself. We had to order blacklights and make posters for it. I am also going to be running the rally next year with Katelyn, which will be challenging. For the tri-tip fundraiser, my job was to weigh the meat, which was a messy job. In the Talent Show committee, I am a trainee along with Avery, and we are working with Brendan. We have already run tryouts, publicized, and created our theme (Movies). In the BBQ committee, the entire class works together to distribute food to the entire school in both the fall and spring.
Concern: I am concerned with the lack of connections being made within the class itself. I feel like all of the efforts being made to bring the class closer together aren’t working. I still always see the freshmen all at one table, best friends sitting together, etc. I will admit that I’m partly guilty of this too, though, and hope to be more open to making new connections.
Positive Comment: I would like to give a positive comment to the Sophomore Officer Team for staying on task throughout the year so far. They did amazing with Homecoming, Winter Formal, T-shirt sales, the tree decorating contest, and have set a great example for the rest of the class to follow.
A Change I Would Like To See: I would like the holiday door decorating to be altered for next year. I feel like having to do our doors Wednesday morning didn’t give us enough time, thus ending up with a lower-quality product. Also, the wrapping paper wasn’t wide enough for the entire door, so we had to cut extra strips and it ended up looking kind of tacky.
My Impact: I’ve made a positive impact on Ripon High by just being a genuine person overall and setting a good example for my peers to follow. I’ve been doing my best to encourage others to make good choices and avoid bad influences around campus, hopefully making them more likely to make better choices and be smarter when faced with peer pressure.
